Roasted chicken stand
Kasiza Ben was one of our oldest kids and was the second move out of the orphanage and become independent.
We first met Ben when he was 16 years old. In his time at the orphanage, he finished elementary school and travelled with the choir to perform in Spain. Upon returning to Uganda in early 2005, he moved to a modest house to start a new life with his newborn son Isaac and girlfriend Aisha.
We helped the couple start a small business to support their new family: a fried chicken and sausage stand. We supported them through the whole process, including finding rental space and purchasing necessary equipment.
Ben works very hard at his business and spends many hours at the stand. However by taking turns working and caring for Isaac, the couple is getting by.
They have more recently been able to move to a house in a safer neighbourhood after being robbed several times and even fearing for their lives at their first home. They are thankful that their new house has electricity and running water.
